Citra believes that the sustainability of traditional textiles is achieved through consistent promotion of it as an art form and part of our history. As the aim of Citra is to be a hub of traditional textiles information, our work then is to gather, curate and disseminate our findings to members and partners alike
As such we host activities that can educate and provide information about traditional textiles. As such our past activities have included workshops like How to sew the tulang belut on your Baju Kurung or Baju Melayu. We have also introduced members to the art of telepuk, a traditional gold gilding embellishment method practiced by royals in the past.
Apart from that we have hosted or appeared on panels to share our knowledge in textiles. The members of Citra include generalists, designers, artists, educators and makers so we are able to talk in great depth about most topics in textiles.
Last year (2023) also saw us travel to Kota Bharu as ‘Kembara CitraTekstil - KELANTAN’ and were able to visit maker workshops (batik) and visit many cultural places like the preserved Rumah Tiang 12 aka ‘Seri Get Guri’. We hope to do more of these types of visit to help deeper our members’ love for traditional textiles & the culture that goes with it.
